FAQ 1 — Buying books published by usQ1 — Can the books on this site be bought elsewhere?
A1 — Yes, they are listed for sale on amazon.co.uk and available to order from bookshops using the ISBN listed on the book's page. Books published in 2022 are also listed for ordering through the Poetry Book Society. Q2 — Can I buy through this site without having a Paypal account? A2 — Yes, there is an option to use a credit or debit card if you click the Paypal buttons. You can also email your order to us through our CONTACT page, giving the title and author of the book(s) you would like to order, your address and the address where you would like us to send the book(s) and we will invoice you and send them out after receiving your cheque or direct bank transfer. Q 3 — How soon will I receive a book that I buy from this site? A3 — We aim to dispatch orders we receive by 2pm on the same day, to arrive within 3 working days. Q4 — How can I buy a book for delivery outside the UK? A4 — There are instructions on each author's page, next to the Paypal buttons. If the author has their own website, buy the book there, or email them and ask to order the book directly from them. Otherwise, email us through our CONTACT page and we will arrange for the author to invoice you and send a copy of their book to the address you supply. Q5 — What do I do if I don't receive a book I've ordered from you? A5 — If your book doesn't arrive within 5 working days of your ordering it, please contact us and we will follow up with Royal Mail and send out a replacement. Q6 — What is your refund policy? A6 — We cannot refund or replace an order unless it has arrived damaged. If that happens, please CONTACT US and send us photos of the damaged book and its packaging as soon as you can, We'll then send you a replacement copy. Q7 — If a buyer mistakenly orders a book for non-uk delivery, through a Paypal button, will they receive a refund? A7 — We regret that we can only refund 90% of a payment made in error, because there is a handling charge by Paypal, which we have to pass on to you. |

FAQ 2 — Publishing your book
Q1— Can you publish my book if I live outside the UK?
A1—In the EU, in most cases, but not elswhere in the world. Q2 — Will you be able to offer my book through this website to buyers living outside the UK? A2—No. We are not selling books online to the UK or elsewhere unless we published them before October 2024. Q3 — Should I submit my book as a printed manuscript? A3—No, we only accept emailed submissions as Word file attachments to [email protected]. Please see further details here. Q4 — What is your usual annual submission schedule? A4 — This varies with individual authors. We expect to compete and print a book within 3 months of acceptance. Q5—If I submit a book for your consideration, how soon will you let me know whether or not you can accept it? A5—If we are currently open for submissions, we will get back to you within four weeks or less after acknowledging receipt. Q6—Do you have a contract with the authors whom you publish? A6—We have an agreement. See our SUBMISSIONS page. Q7—Does the author retain the copyright on their poems when they sign the contract? A7— We have first rights on the collection in the UK, that is, the whole collection in the form in which we edit it. But the author can have individual poems reprinted in journals, websites, anthologies and later collections, even after agreeing to our terms. We only ask for an acknowledgement of VOLE Books as the poem's first publisher. The author may have the whole book republished outside the UK without breaking the contract. Q8—Are there costs to the author when you publish their book? A8--See our SUBMISSIONS page. Q9 — Do you offer editing or proof-reading services? A9 -- We don’t offer these services separately from our publishing service. The cost to you of buying copies of the book covers the cost of design and layout. We expect manuscripts submitted to us to have been edited and proofread before we read them, but if we find a need for further editing of the content when we publish your book, we will offer suggestions and make adjustments in collaboration with you the author. Further proof-reading is ongoing as we lay out the book’s content. You will receive PDFs of the layout at regular stages and will be responsible for the final proof-read before the printed proof is ordered. Q10—How do you fix the RRP of a book or pamphlet? A10—We fix the RRP according to the band it falls into, based on the number of pages (sides) the finished book contains. When we accept a book for publishing we send the author an estimate of the RRP. Q12—Can I get reprints of my book if I want more copies? A12—We can arrange for reprints at 30% of the RRP + £8.00 delivery (£10.00 to the EU) within the first 12 months after printing the initial run. Q13—When do you invoice an author? A13—We ask for a deposit of £250.00 when we begin to edit a file after we have accepted the book for publication. The balance is invoiced and payable when you as the author have accepted a bound proof copy of your book. Q14—Do you send out review copies? A14—We don’t include a promise to find reviewers of your book, but we will send out up to 5 review copies if we’re asked by reputable reviewers to do so. Q15—Who designs the covers of your publications? A15—We design a wrap-around cover which may include an image provided by you, which we will use at our discretion and in consultation with you. We do not guarantee a colour match with an image designed by you or a third party, and after consultation with you, our decision on the design of the cover will be final . Q16—How will you promote my book if you publish it?
Q17—Do you enter any of your books for prizes or awards? A17—We do so at our own discretion and are willing to support authors who ask us to enter their books for national prizes if we feel that there is a chance of success. Q18—Do you pay royalties to authors? A18—No, as we no longer sell books from our site and Bookshops' are so heavily discounted by the shops (40% on average) that we cannot afford to pay royalties. |
